Legend Paul Scholes of Manchester United can understand why some fans of Liverpool trent Alexander-Arnold have stuck during the Premier League-equal game on Sunday with Arsenal.
Alexander-Arnold announced earlier this month that he would leave the club this summer when his contract ends with the full-back that is expected to join Real Madrid.
The collision with the Gunners was Liverpool's first match on Anfield since the announcement and a large number of supporters announced their feelings.
The Englishman had started the game on the couch, but got a choir of angry when he came up in the second half.
Thinking about what a low moment was in a different brilliant Premier League campaign for the Arne Slot team, Scholes wrote in his column for TNT Sports: 'I did not expect the Booing to Alexander-Arnold, but I think it is difficult to understand what they are [the fans] Continue if you are not a fan of Liverpool or live in the city.
'I understood the reaction a bit because they think Liverpool is the best in the world – just as I think Manchester United is the best. I understand from that point of view.
'As a fan you will of course be angry with him. I try to compare it to when Cristiano Ronaldo or David Beckham left Old Trafford to join Real Madrid. I know it's not a like-for-like comparison because David [was not a local lad but] Come as a United as a young player, and you felt that his time under Sir Alex Ferguson was over and the time he would leave.
'With Cristiano it was always his dream to play for Madrid even before he came to us, and we managed to keep him an extra year. I know it is not a local boy who leaves, but I would wonder if it was myself, Gary [Neville]Phil [Neville]Ryan [Giggs]Nicky [Butt] Who were in a similar situation, would there have been a lot of commotion about it? Don't know.
'But I think Trent deserves a little credit for the way he has treated everything. Perhaps the only mistake he made was to announce his decision before the end of the season. Nowadays you see so many players who accumulate to get out of a football club, and he didn't do that.
'Some players refuse to play or see the manager to demand a transfer, but with Trent he actually came to the end of his contract and he just wants something new.
'That will of course not be good with fans of Liverpool, but it is his life, and he wants to play in Spain with his partner Jude Bellingham. But I can understand why Liverpool fans are not graceful with that, because they will see Liverpool just as big as Real Madrid. '
