Everton opened their new Bramley -Moore Dock Stadium for their supporters on Monday evening – but the evening was, at least partly, ruined by a Liverpool fan.
At the end of this season, the Toffees will say goodbye to Goodison Park while they exchange houses for the 'Everton Stadium' on the Bramley-Moore site, a £ 550 million site that will hold 52,888 fans for what will be almost certain, again , again, Premier League Football next season.
Everton will set up various competitions and events on the Bramley-Moore dock site at the beginning of this year and that started on Monday with the Everton Under 18 Side who participated in a friendly against Wigan's youth team.
Tickets were priced at £ 5 for adults and £ 2.50 for concessions. In the second test event, 25,000 in just under 21 years will be admitted in just over a month.
Everton is not yet allowed to play competitive luminaires in the stadium. The test events-a third will probably take place at almost full capacity later in the season-the club will enable the required license and safety certificates.
The Premier League U18 side hoped to kick things off with a victory, but achieved the worst possible start – when Harrison Rimmer, a Liverpool fan, scored the first goal and celebrated by protecting the Huizentrouwe.
It was a neat finish from Rimmer, who received the ball on the edge of the box before he turned and let fly.
His effort defeated Toffees -goalkeeper Seve Patrick at his nearby post and caused wild parties of the visiting players.
Perhaps no more than Van Rimmer himself, who grew up a Liverpool fan and was not about to waste his chance.
While he celebrated, cameras showed the teenager who kept six fingers at the crowd, in reference to the six European Rivals Liverpool championships.
“That young man there, Harrison Rimmer, just had a moment when he will remember the rest of his life,” said the commentator on the YouTube channel of Everton, which streamed the game live to around 200,000 viewers live.
On the official website of Wigan, Rimmer is described as 'a tough tackling midfielder who can also operate back directly,' have been at the club since the age of 11.
“He has a real appetite to compete in both training and competitions and is both technically and physically good,” the description continued.
The spot came only a few days after Everton had protected a dramatic draw in the final once Merseyside Derby in Goodison Park.
Rimmer also continued the message on social media, shared a message from the goal and writing: 'Rattled', accompanied by a shoulder -picking emoji.
The young people under the age of 18 were managed by former Everton and England left Leighton Baines, who played 420 Toffees matches in 13 seasons. Since he left to join the first team coaching staff of David Moyes, Keith Southern has taken over. Everton considered opening a women's fixture to open the stadium, but the schedule made this difficult.
An X account for the stadium shared images from an interview with two fans, with one explaining how they 'felt excited like a child at Christmas'.
“I will be devastated to leave Goodison, but this is something else, this,” the added from the ground.
Images were also shared from fans were in the New South Stand, because the club encouraged supporters to send in their photos and videos of the event.
Everton has been in Goodison Park for almost 134 years, but decided to leave in 2017, with Bramley-Moore Dock the preferred site for the new land.
Construction began in July 2021 and the land was structurally completed after the last concrete terrace panel was introduced in February last year.
The contractor handed the stadium in December and Everton will now play to play games to obtain the relevant licenses.
By kicking off against Wigan, the ground was not even a fifth full, but fans were in the South Stand to watch the friendly game.
In the meantime, some Liverpool fans took joy in the goal – and celebration – while putting it on social media.
A fan wrote on X: 'More goals scored by a red in the new stadium than trophies won in 30 years.
Another posted: “Draw him.”
