Sean O’Malley responds to criticism surrounding his UFC 316 title rematch against Merab Dvalishvili

Fans did not respond well to the announcement of Dana White that Sean O'Malley will rematch the following for the title Merab Dvalishvili.

After increasing his Starpower ten -time when he became the UFC Bantamweight Champion, Sean O'Malley was deemed rough last September by Merab Dvalishvili on UFC 306.

Not only defeated Merab Dvalishvili Sean O'Malley, but he treated him with relatively ease, so that 'Sugas's' championship rule crashed almost immediately.

Earlier this year, Dvalishvili defended his title against Umar Nurmagomedov on UFC 311 and again presented his dominance while O'Malley watched.

O'Malley responds to criticism about the rematch announcement

O'Malley has not fought anymore since he lost his title last September, because he recovered from a torn Labrum, whom he took in the fight.

Nevertheless, he remained hopeful that he would get an immediate rematch against Dvalishvili, and the two discussed a rematch during a recent meeting at the UFC Performance Institute.

Fortunately for 'Suga', UFC boss Dana White announced the rematch for UFC 316 during a Breaking News Livestream on his Instagram last Tuesday.

The UFC fan base did not respond so well to the announcement and claims that O'Malley does not earn an immediate rematch, given that he has not fought since their first fight.

However, O'Malley responded to the criticism with a video on his YouTube channel.

“The Rematch is officially, 'Suga' Sean vs Merab 2 happens, and I don't think people will be too happy with it,” O'Malley admitted.

“The last time I fought the best bantam weight in the world, or the best bantam weight at the time, we did the job. I have a very confidence in my skills, last camp, we had a few – I didn't want to sit here and apologize, we had a great camp, we came in shape that we could.

“This camp has already been very different and I feel good. So super excited to go outside and to take care of business. I have the feeling that many things I have made in my life in my life attributing to my performance,” he continued.

After his title loss, O'Malley decided to come from social media, which he thinks will play a big difference in his UFC 316 camp.

Sean O'Malley claims that his body has not felt so well since 2022 '

After he had started his UFC 306 title defense with an injury, it turned out in his disappointing performance, which is a mistake that he will probably no longer make.

Since then, the 30-year-old has taken his recovery more seriously and he has claimed that his body 'has not felt so good' since his fight against Petr Yan in 2022.

“I'm going to be 70% better than in that first fight. I am becoming more mobile, more agile, better form. I'm going to fight with my full potential.”

The Bantamweight title fight will be accompanied by a Bantamweight title fight for women between Julianna Pena and Kayla Harrison, which takes place in the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on 7 June.
