Last Saturday the short wellweight title of Belal Muhammad came to an end when he was dethroned by Jack della Maddalena.
Prior to that fight, 'Remember the name' had a potential future switch to the middleweight division to compete for a different title.
It was recently announced by UFC boss Dana White that Du Plessis will defend his title against Khamzat Chimaev on UFC 319.
Strickland and Muhammad went back and forth earlier, and Strickland believes that it is now a perfect time for them to finally arrange their feud in the cage.

Sean Strickland reveals its current weight
Although he stays in the training all year round, Strickland visibly looks bigger than he has ever looked before, and enjoying the fact that he has not yet had a fight on the horizon.
And with that Strickland revealed that he currently weighs 230 pounds and admits that he is 'a little fat'. That would be the type of weight where a slightly heavyweight would run around to reduce to 205 pounds.
With 45 pounds to cut before he gets back in the Octagon on the middleweight, Strickland has different options to choose from.
Former UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya recently revealed that he wants to rematch Strickland, after he has lost his title to him in a shocking way.
