“Sending a hug to heaven”: Jiménez reacts to the death of former team-mate Jota

Fulham striker Raúl Jiménez has given a sincere tribute to Diogo Jota, his good friend and former Wolves teammate, after the death of the Liverpool Forward in a car accident.

Jota and his brother, colleague footballer André Silva, were killed in the early hours of Thursday, in an accident on a highway in the province of Zamora, Spain.

“We will always remember”

“It is difficult to process this kind of news – I still can't believe it,” wrote Jiménez, who is currently in an Instagram story at the Concacaf Gold Cup with the national team of Mexico.

“An incredible teammate, a friend and especially a great father. Thank you for everything, my friend. We will always remember you. Send a hug to heaven.”

A duo that clicked on and out of the field

Before moving to Fulham in 2023, Jiménez coincided two seasons together with Jota in Wolves, from 2018 to 2020. In Molineux, the couple built a close relationship of the field and a dynamic duo formed it.

The chemistry of Jiménez with Jota in particular was in the heart of the career-best season of the Mexican in 2019/20, when the 34-year-old 27 goals scored and delivered 10 assists in all competitions for the Premier League club.
