Serie A starlet snubs Spain in favour of Senegal call-up

On Friday, Spain manager Luis de la Fuente mentions his team for the quarterfinals of the UEFA Nations League against the Netherlands, but Assane Diao will not be there. The talented wing player, who moved from Real Betis to Como during the winter transfer window, has been on the Radar of La Roja, but they missed him.

In recent weeks it has been reported that Senegal has considered asking to change diao from Trouw. The 19-year-old, who has five goals in 10 performances since he moved to Como, has thought of his international future, and he has now been made a decision.

It is not a good news for Spain, because Senegal has Diao in their team for upcoming matches against Sudan and Togo. According to Marca, this has indicated that he has decided to represent the country of his birth at international level.

The report also states that Diao would not be called by De la Fuente for this month's matches against the Netherlands, because he would be included in the U21 team instead. This could have been a contributing factor for him who decided to change Trouw to Spain, especially because there was no clear route for him to the Senior Setup.

Spain is blessed with many talented wing players, including people like Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, Ferran Torres, Yeremy Pino and Ferran Torres. This played against Diao, who would undoubtedly have been someone for La Roja in the coming years.

It will be very interesting to see how Diao continues with Senegal, and whether Spain will regret missing him. For the time being, the former Betis wing player will concentrate on the last match of Como for the international break, after which he can start thinking about making his senior international debut in the match against Sudan.
