Manchester United has RB Leipzig -striker Benjamin Sesko directly at the top of their shortlist for a new striker, but are confronted with serious competition from Premier League -Rivalen Newcastle United
Manchester United may have been left in the race for Benjamin Sesko with Newcastle who fights for the rush. The Red Devils have the RB Leipzig directly at the top of their shortlist, because they strive to add a new striker.
There are already conversations between United and the Bundesliga Club, although they are at an early stage. However, Ruben Amorim's side is confronted with competition for his services, with Newcastle that Sesko also sees as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak.
As it looks now, the Swedish attacker seems unlikely that it would leave St James' park after Newcastle rejected Liverpool's opening bid. And that would show that they no longer need Sesko.
But reports from the home country of the frontman of Slovenia suggest differently. According to Delo, Sesko has already chosen to join Newcastle instead of Manchester United this summer.
At the time of writing there is no agreement between the Magpies and Leipzig, which could give United some late hope. As it looks now, Mirror Football understands that a deal is far from closed and both teams are still in the race for the services of Sesko despite his apparent preference.
But if he chooses Newcastle, it would be a new blow to United and their hope for signing a striker who had already seen former target Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal. Sesko, 22, scored 21 goals for Leipzig last season.
United star Patrick Dorgu has already given his opinion on the pursuit of a striker of the Red Devils, but claimed that he still has faith in the misconduct of teammate Rasmus Hojlund. He said: “He is doing really well. He looks sharp, he looks fit and I am very happy that Rasmus has his goal.
“It was a difficult season for Rasmus. Not only for him, but for everyone, so I think this season is really important for him and for the team to return to where we should be in the competition.

“We need a striker to deliver the field, so that's why he was happy. We talk in training, we try to understand each other on the field, for me to know where he is in the box and what movements he likes. He needs trust, everyone needs trust and a goal always helps with that.”
Elsewhere, Ruben Amorim has also adopted a hard posture about all the signs of United, claiming that they should want to become a Red Devil. He said: “They must want to come here. I think what we can do the fans is that we want players to have proven it [themselves] all.
“Sometimes you have a player with a lot of potential, you have to be aware of that, but all players coming, we have to know the player. We have to talk to the player, we have to explain the project.
“And then a very important thing they want to come here is the most important point. If we can find someone who can help the team during the market and everything that can be with them, we will do it. If not, we can't do it because it is an important time in our club.”
