MANCHESTER UNITED have broken all the wrong records so far this season.
Ruben Amorim is the club's third manager after Erik ten Hag's disastrous start.
And while interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy was able to steady the ship during his four-match interim spell, things have turned even sourer following Amorim's appointment.
The Portuguese boss warned of the “storm” that would follow his appointment as he tried to implement his own tactical ideas into the squad.
However, just four of his first ten games won have been a huge shock, even for this team that has largely flopped over the past two seasons.
The results leave the Red Devils in fourteenth place and just eight points above the relegation zone.
Millions of pounds were spent improving the team under Ten Hag.
But with another rebuild on the horizon, United simply don't have the resources to spend the money without first trying to balance the books.
This has taken the form of many small cutback plans at the bottom of the club pyramid.
These included laying off 250 staff in the summer, halting many initiatives such as the Christmas party and securing a £40,000 donation to a charity for ex-players, as exclusively revealed by The Sun.
Yet January represents a time when transfer chiefs, led by Jason Wilcox following the departure of Dan Ashworth, can begin to try to sort out some of the mistakes made in the market.
The big move that could facilitate a whole series of activities is the departure of Marcus Rashford.
After 18 months of huge struggle for the Red Devils, 27-year-old Rashford admitted in an interview earlier this month that he was “ready for a new challenge”.
The local boy has since been absent from Amorim's matchday squad, indicating his time at Old Trafford could be coming to an end if there is enough interest.
According to The Athletic, United made moves to find suitors for the forward in the summer, with Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi giants linked.
But the report warns that a loan transfer is more likely given his huge wages of £325,000 a week, although this would take at least some of the money off United's wage books and help with PSR needs.
Harry Maguire is another star who could be sold to improve the club's PSR position, with Napoli showing interest in the defender whose contract expires this summer.
Expensive flop Antony has also been linked with the exit door amid some good cameos under Amorim, with Real Betis reportedly interested last summer.
But spending alone will not solve this team's problems, as a left-back is one of the main priorities the club will look to solve in the future.
United have completed a deal to sign left-back Diego Leon from Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno, with the transfer nearing completion.
However, the 17-year-old won't be able to actually play until the summer due to post-Brexit rules that prevent Premier League clubs from signing under-18s from abroad.
Instead, club chiefs can keep an eye on a blast from the past in the form of Benfica left-back Alvaro Fernandez.
United have included a buy-back clause in his deal that will allow them to re-sign the 21-year-old, who they sold for around £5 million in the summer, for £25 million.
Fernandez has been a key star for Benfica, top of the Portuguese league, playing every minute of their Champions League season so far.
In terms of senior stars, United are keeping an eye on Atalanta midfielder Ederson, 25, for his impressive performances for the high-flying Serie A team.
His familiarity with a 3-4-2-1 system would also serve United well in improving Amorim's options in the middle of the park.
Meanwhile, former Amorim captain Viktor Gyokeres has also been extensively linked with a move to follow his old boss to Man Utd.
However, the 26-year-old Swede has an £83m buyout clause in his contract, which United cannot match, although he could reportedly leave for just £50m.
