Sevilla has appointed Argentinian Matias Almeyda as manager, said the Liga Club on Monday, with their former player who signed a three -year contract on the side, which fought relegation last season.
Almeyda spent a season in Sevilla when he came to River Plate in 1996, before he continued with Lazio, Parma and Inter Milan in Italy. After he had finished his match days back on River Plate, he started his management career there.
The 51-year-old brought the lead in the Greek club AEK Athens in the last two seasons, where he won the Interior Double in his first campaign, which previously broke up with San Jose-Early in the MLS.
Sevilla avoided relegation with one point last season, with manager Garcia Pimienta fired in April and Joaquin Caparros appointed until the end of the season, a campaign in which angry fans stormed the club's training field last month.
