Jesus Navas' stellar career is coming to an end, much to the chagrin of football fans everywhere, but especially Sevillistas. The 39-year-old announced several months ago that he would not complete the season and retire at the end of the year.
Tomorrow the 39-year-old will be ready for his final home performance, and it will certainly be an emotional event. This season, Navas has already been seen in tears during or at the end of matches.
“A lot of things come to mind, I try to process them and hopefully I can enjoy the moment. I'm really looking forward to the match against Celta, to continue contributing until the end and to help Sevilla win again. That the fans are happy is the most important thing,” he told Diario AS.
Navas has not yet made plans for his retirement, although he is ready for an as-yet undefined role at the club.
'That's complicated… We'll see what happens. To be honest, I haven't thought about that day yet. I try to make these moments before I retire as good as possible, to enjoy Seville, that is the most beautiful thing there is.”
He also confirmed that he did not feel ready to leave the match but that the pain in his hip made this impossible.
'That's right, an ordeal. And the worst is not now, but I had to think about the future. I want to continue to live a normal life and play football with my children when I retire. As I am now, continuing at this level could compromise my integrity. “I've been forced to leave, but if I tell the truth, I don't think I'm ready to leave football yet.”
Navas only retired from Spain this summer, starting in the Euro 2024 semi-final against France, a testament to both his enduring skill and professionalism. He will go down as one of Sevilla's legends and one of the most successful players in the history of Spain. Sevilla play Celta Vigo at home on Saturday before traveling to the Santiago Bernabeu to play Real Madrid in their final match of the year.
