Shavkat Rakhmonov called out for ‘true No. 1 contender’ matchup despite UFC title shot ultimatum

UFC Welterweight Competent Shavkat Rakhmonov was called up in November for the upcoming Madison Square Garden Card.

Shavkat Rakhmonov has not fought anymore since the beating of Ian Machado Garry on UFC 310 last December. The undefeated UFC candidate for Welterweight suffered a major setback in the weeks after the fight, including various injuries that have postponed his title hunt.

At a time when the UFC Welterweight Division just welcomed the Islam Makhachev in the mix, Rakhmonov and others are waiting for a shot on the outside on the outside. Rakhmonov may have to win at least one fight before he makes a plea for another title shot.

Rakhmonov recently put down his foot in the claim that he is only looking for a title shot for his next UFC booking. He closed the idea of taking 'intermediate fights' while proposing a shot on the belt.

In a recent episode of the Bradybagz show, UFC Welterweight Sean Brady offered to welcome Rakhmonov to the Octagon.

“Shavkat said something about him who came back in November or December, so if he returns in November, I want to fight quickly, but I would wait and fight him on MSG on the same card as Jack and Islam, and then that is a real no. 1 candidate,” said Brady about Rakhmonov.

“Because he was guaranteed Shavkat Rakhmonov called out for ‘true No. 1 contender’ matchup despite UFC title shot ultimatum Vecht, I defeated the number 1 man, who wins that the true no. 1 contender are, so I would like to do that. We will contact us this week and see if that is an option. “

Brady then revealed that he was in conversation to face Ian Machado Garry on UFC 319 before the negotiations got stuck.

“I am trying to fight since my last fight,” said Brady. “They called us about a month ago and asked me and Ian [Machado Garry] For Chicago.

“I was inside, didn't hear from the UFC or a little afterwards.” (H/T MMA Fighting)

UFC Welterweight Champion Jack della Maddalena is expected to be confronted with Makhachev later this year, probably at UFC 322 in Madison Square Garden. Maddalena earned the belt by beating Belal Muhammad by a unanimous decision earlier this year.

Rakhmonov is one of the many top wells weights that make strong cases for the next title shot against the winner of Maddalena vs. Makhachetev. Former UFC champion Welterweight Kamaru Usman defeated Joaquin Buckley to return to the title mix in June, another potential opponent for the return of Rakhmonov.

Brady also makes a strong case in the midst of his three-fighter wintreak, including his most recent finish by Leon Edwards in UFC London. His only UFC defeat met Muhammad on UFC 280.

The UFC matchmakers have a fairly high task that tries to match the best contenders of the Welterweight Division. If Rakhmonov does not get his desired title shot, it can take a while until the fan favorite returns to the cage.
