Shearer blames ‘unacceptable’ four-minute VAR delay for injury to Grealish

Alan Shearer believes that the long VAR evaluation in the first half of the collision of Manchester City against Real Madrid could have been responsible for the injury to Jack Grealish.

The International English International was a surprise in Pep Guardiola's Start XI for the visit of the European champions on Tuesday evening and he made an impact on the field in his short time, giving the pass that led to the opener of the city.

Uncertainty about the position of Erling Haaland when he got a touch from Josko Gvardiol, however, led to an overview of approximately four minutes.

The delay in the procedure may have contributed to the issue that Grealish of the field forced in the 29th minute, according to Shearer. And the former striker in Newcastle went so far to call the episode unacceptable.

“I just said about how well he had started,” said Shearer on Amazon Prime. “It would be such a shame if he had to leave. He played a major role in the goal.

'It certainly doesn't help if you have top athletes who are around for almost four minutes, it can't help you or your body.

“It is not acceptable that players have to wait so long.”

The incident at the Etihad was a rarity in the Champions League this season, which – in contrast to the Premier League – uses semi -automated outside. The system has contributed to accelerating the time needed to decide marginal calls in European competition.

However, the specificity of the call on Tuesday – judgments or Haaland was outside the ball, instead of the ultimate defender – led to a delay that was often seen in the English top flight.

Grealisk was replaced by Phil Foden while the side of Guardiola went looking for an advantage of the first leg in the play-off of the Champions League.
