Shearer makes bold prediction for Liverpool vs City: They could overpower them

Alan Shearer has tipped Liverpool to 'overpower' Manchester City in their huge Premier League title clash this weekend and can only see a win for Arne Slot's men.

Pep Guardiola's men travel to Anfield on Sunday knowing another defeat would extend Liverpool's lead at the top to 11 points and all but end their title defence.

City are in dismal form, having failed to win a game in six games dating back to the end of October. A 4-0 home defeat to Tottenham last week left the team in crisis and followed that result with a 3-3 draw at home to Feyenoord after leading 3-0.

Liverpool will be heavily backed to add to City's misery and extend their torrid spell. Match of the Day expert Shearer believes the Reds will surpass their struggling rivals.

Speaking to Betfair, he said: “Unless City strengthen and strengthen in midfield, Liverpool could overpower them there. There are so many great battles to look forward to. Whoever Pep decides to play at left-back will have a huge challenge ahead.

“With the form Man City are in, Liverpool at Anfield and the attackers they have, I can't see anything other than a win for Liverpool.”

Shearer isn't the only pundit to give his opinion on the match after Jamie Carragher predicted a loss for City this weekend could spell the end of their title race.

“An eleven-point lead would be too big. Not necessarily because Liverpool would stretch to win the Premier League. Arsenal and Chelsea also have a real chance this season.”

However, former City manager Stuart Pearce insisted the club's critics should “write them off at their peril” and said he would not be surprised if Guardiola still won the league.

“They are suffering at the moment but if you write off City you do so at your own peril,” he said. “They are that good. Their manager is world class and we will talk about world class in a minute, but he is perhaps the best manager who ever lived.
