Simeone after strong finish to Atletico Madrid season after Rayo Vallecano win

Head coach of Atletico Madrid Diego Simeone wants his side to maintain their momentum for the rest of the LaLala season after a 3-0 win over Rayo Vallecano on Thursday.

The victory lets them third in the table, six points free from Athletic Bilbao, although they follow Leaders Barcelona with 10 points.

Goals from Alexander Sorloth, Conor Gallagher and Julian Alvarez have helped Athleti to beat their 1-0 defeat as relegation-thrusters Las Palmas last weekend.

“It doesn't get me angry that we now score goals, it is part of the process. In football, many scenarios can happen and we have to be prepared for everything that comes our way,” said Simeone.

“In the competition we compete pretty well and I hope we can maintain this line game until the end of the game.”

To challenge the LaLiga title, Atletico will require an unlikely drop from both Barcelona and Real Madrid. Instead, Simeone is simply after his side to be defensive solid in their last five games.

In addition, Simeone reserved praise for the performance of Antoine Griezmann against Rayo after offering a brilliant assist for goal scorer Alvarez.

“In the game against Las Palmas we played very badly and today we repeated that situation a bit in the first half, but we recover and I am happy with the defensive work that is our first strength to build everything the team is trying to do,” he said.

“Antoine came up in the 60th minute and found a way to break down the defense and make an important pass. Julian goals speak for whom he is a player and we get to know the person, he is a man who came here to win and I hope we can help him do that.”
