Sir Jim Ratcliffe risks a major failure with Ruben Amorim when he sells Bruno Fernandes, according to reports.
Captain Fernandes from Manchester United is aggressively chased by Saudi side Al-Hilal.
With the Red Devils during a tour after the season through Asia, the agent of the midfielder was in Riyadh meeting with Al-Hilal Chiefs.
The Saudi side would be willing to spend £ 100 million on the 30-year-old, while offering him a tax-free deal of three years worth £ 200 million.
According to De Ster, Ratcliffe is willing to cash in Fernandes to illuminate the financial misery of Cash-Strapped United.
However, Amorim is determined to keep his skipper – and would be “seven” if his Portuguese countryman was smothered.
Fernandes, who is said to take serious account of the range of Al-Hilal, opened the door to an Old Trafford exit after the last defeat of United's Europa League against Tottenham.
The midfielder said: “I have always been honest. I have always said that I will be here until the club tells me it is time to go.
“I would like to do more to be able to bring the club the great days.
“On the day the club thinks I'm too much or it's time to separate, football is that way, you never know. But I have always said it and I keep my word in the same way.
“If the club thinks it's time to separate because they want to come up with some money or whatever, it is what it is and football is sometimes so.”
Asked if Fernandes will leave after he had chosen him for today's 3-1 victory over Hong Kong, boss Amorim claimed: “I don't think so.
“I'm not sure, nobody does it. But I don't think so.
“I think he wants to stay. He says no to many things, but it shows that he wants to win.”
