After losing Dan Ashworth to Manchester United last year, Newcastle United now looks at the COO of the Red Devils, Collette Roche, to replace Chief Executive Darren Eales in St James' Park
Newcastle United has identified the Chief Operating Officer of Manchester United as a candidate to become their new Chief Executive. Collette Roche would have attracted considerable interest in the Magpies because they want to name a successor for the current sitting Darren Eales.
Roche has offered the Red Devils a rare figure of continuity at Old Trafford since the investment of Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the club. Although much of the club's hierarchy has been overhauled with the arrival of people such as Omar Berrada and a series of outputs, Roche has expanded its role.
The former director of Manchester Airport has seen more responsibilities, because the influence of Ineos at the club was felt and enjoyed a hands-on role in the football department and the development of the training ground. Roche would also be prominent in the new Stadium plans of United.
The COO of United is previously connected to Everton, but is now in the race to replace Eales, by reports. The Newcastle leader announced his plans to resign from his position last year after the diagnosis of a chronic form of blood cancer.
Eales, appointed in August 2022 after the takeover of the Magpies by PIF, dedicated to continue his work with the club until his successor was found. The transition from the ex-Atlanta United President has merged with the club that earned his first domestic trophy in 70 years.
“Being CEO from Newcastle United is an extraordinary privilege and I am incredibly proud to be part of the club's exciting journey,” he said.
“However, it has become clear to me that it is now the right time to make this decision so that I can prioritize my health and my family.
“In the short term it will be as usual of the daily activities of the club, and I will give my full support to a transition period that will enable the board to carefully assess and appoint my successor.
“I want to express my sincere thanks to the supporters, ownership, players and employees of the club. I am proud of what we have collectively achieved and I am excited to see what awaits for everyone when the club builds a future of sustainable success.”
If Roche makes the switch to St James' park, she will get the well -known prospects to plan around a new stadium. The Carabao Cup winners are said to look at a new land of 65,000 capacity.
Expansion of the current stadium of the club is difficult, and as a result it could still see a new build. Chairman Yasir al-Rahalyyan and the Saudi owners of the club said that they presented the plans last month at a top of the council in Matfen Hall.
Chief Operating Officer Brad Miller and Eales suggested that a brand new stadium would be the best route to follow if Newcastle continues in their attempts to navigate the Premier League profit and sustainability rules.
