Liverpool tries to turn off a potential club record agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz, but they could still land the Germany -star for a lower sum
Liverpool could still try to use one of their own players as a sweetener in a deal for Florian Wirtz, where Bayer Leverkusen appreciated the attacking midfielder on a stunning £ 126 million.
Wirtz, 22, has emerged as a top objective for the Reds after another fantastic season in the Bundesliga under the supervision of a former Anfield favorite in Xabi Alonso. And although he was expected to stay in Germany in the midst of transfer interest from Bayern Munich, it now seems likely that Wirtz will go to the Premier League.
Landing Wirtz would be a large coup for Liverpool, who are fresh to win the title in the first season of Arne Slot. And although they could theoretically break the British transfer record to get their husbands, it seems that other options are also on the table.
Sky Sports Germany claims that the Reds could close a deal for less than the SUM Leverkusen of £ 126 million, hold out if they send a player in the opposite direction.
Leverkusen, who are in conversation to name Erik ten Hag as their new head coach, would be on the market for a goalkeeper, a central defender and a striker.
And that could pave the way for people like Caoimhin Kelleher, Joe Gomez, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones or Harvey Elliott – who are all linked to a summer exit – to be included in a possible deal.
The recording of a player would probably push the costs of a deal under the £ 115 million British transfer record that was determined by Chelsea when they signed Moises Caicedo in the summer of 2023.
Leverkusen is supposed to be liked to negotiate a deal immediately with Wirtz who is now continuing this summer. Liverpool is already ready to activate the release clause of £ 30 million in the contract of Jeremie Frimpong, the right wing of Leverkusen, while increasing their summer activity.

Manchester City and Bayern Munich have been heavily connected to Wirtz in recent months, with the first thought that he would be enthusiastic as the successor to Kevin De Bruyne before he recently removed the photo.
Herbert Hainer, the president of Bayern Munich, admitted the defeat in their attempt to sign Wirtz at the weekend and revealed: “Max Eberl (Bayern Sporting Director) told me that Florian Wirtz is likely to tend to go to Liverpool. I can't say how things will happen to Leverkusen.”
