SKYSPORT: Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has died in a car accident in Spain

Liverpool Vooruit Diogo Jota died in a car accident in Spain at the age of 28.

Sky Sports News has received a confirmation from Jota's death by the Guardia Civil in Zamora, where the accident took place.

Jota started his career in his native Portugal and came through the Pacos de Ferreira Academy before he came to Atletico Madrid in 2016.

But he never appeared in front of the LaLiga side, instead on loan on Porto – the city where he was born – and then Wolves, where he finally took a permanent step in 2018.

He spent two years in the Midlands among colleague Portuguese Nuno Espirito Santo, before he was signed by Liverpool in September 2020.

He recently won the Premier League with Liverpool, which contributed to his FA Cup and Carabao Cup titles. He also played in the 1-0 defeat of Liverpool against Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League 2021/22, which came as a replacement.

He made his Portugal debut in November 2019 and led to Euro 2022 and Euro 2024. He missed the World Cup 2022 due to injury.

He won the Nations League twice with his country, including the most recent edition in May.
