Slot admits Carabao Cup final mistake as he looks for Liverpool vs Everton

Liverpool takes on Everton in the Merseyside Derby on Wednesday evening with Arne Slot hopeful that they have been recovered from their Carabao Cup defeat by Newcastle

Arne Slot and Liverpool go in a Merseyside Derby with the chance to remind everyone of their sparkle this season in the Premier League.

It comes after he had admitted that he was wrong for the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle by not rotating enough after a tapping Champions League output by PSG. For the first time, this campaign has been asked questions about Liverpool. Yet the pain of a European exit and a defeat at Wembley will soon be forgotten if the Reds get the job in the Premier League. They have a more than healthy lead at the top of the table and five victories should be enough to celebrate a 20th league title in May.

The Pyro will be red and the party will be pandemonium. However, there is still a bit of work to do. Starting with the visit of Buren Everton and the wounds still heal from a fiery last derby in Goodison Park in February.

That ended in a draw, but did not really put a dent in their title ambitions. Realistic more dropped points on Wednesday will also not be catastrophic. But lock has had to admit that for the first time this season he was wrong against Newcastle and maybe there are points that have to be proven tonight.

He held a meeting with the players on Sunday to confirm that the work percentage is non-negotiable. Sometimes Everton was able to work out them in February. He does not want a repeat of Anfield there.

“Show them the work percentage that they have put in a row for so many games,” Slot said when he was asked what he pointed in that meeting. “Paris Saint-Germain was a good example of that, so maybe, maybe, maybe I made the biggest mistake by not rotating enough.

“But I thought there were four days in between for Newcastle, they had enough peace, but again, it's too simple to say that we were outterted, we have to give the honor to everything that Newcastle did, because we finally admitted a corner.

“That has nothing to do with a sprint or going back or whatever, it just admits a corner, but it emphasizes what we have made where we are now.

The lack of rotation of Slot was admitted by the Liverpool manager, but it has achieved questions about whether he needs more depth in his team. Only Nottingham Forest used fewer players this season than Liverpool in the competition, with the Reds with 24 and the difficult trees at 23.

Of all the teams playing in Europe, Liverpool has made the least changes per competition match. Nevertheless, Slot says that he trusts Wataru Endo, Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott despite their lack of minutes compared to regular starters.

The Dutchman said: “It doesn't mean that if you don't play someone, you don't trust them. I do. But I probably think the other is a bit better otherwise I would make a different choice. Or they fit better in the team. Mo has certain qualities and stupid has certain qualities and they help each other.

“While it is a bit more difficult with other players. That's what makes a team. I can't play with 11 MO Salahs and I can't play with 11 Dominik Szoboszlais.”
