Nations League star in horror Ronaldo celebration fail after last gasp equaliser
SERBIA star Aleksa Terzic went from ecstasy to injury after being left on the floor after a failed celebration.
The 25-year-old Terzic scored the final equalizer for Serbia as the Eagles took a late point over rival country Switzerland in the Nations League on Saturday.
The Serbs trailed 1-0 heading into the final stages of the match after Zeki Amdouni put Switzerland ahead in the 78th minute.
But a misplaced late corner for the Swiss allowed visitors Serbia to launch a quick counter-attack, which Terzic finished off.
RB Salzburg's versatile wide man curled his effort neatly past Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel to level the scores.
Of course he wanted to enjoy the moment and celebrate in front of the away fans, but his overexcitement left him lying on the ground, apparently in pain.
Terzic had tried to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo's famous 'SIUUU' celebration but mistimed his leap into the air and fell to the ground in an awkward position.
The former Fiorentina man immediately tumbled to the turf and lay by the corner flag as his teammates smothered him in the late celebrations.
Fortunately, Terzic was able to get back on his feet after the accident, seemingly putting aside any concerns about a serious injury as a result of the celebration.
However, the late goal marked the end of his evening as Serbian boss Dragan Stojkovic immediately replaced him with Sasa Zdjelar.
The defensive switch helped Serbia see out the remainder of the match and earn their second point of the Nations League campaign.
The point meant the Serbs remain above Switzerland in League A, Group 4 – something that will be huge for fans given the deep-rooted rivalry between the two nations.
Serbia and Switzerland have some bad blood between themselves regarding the ethnic origins of some Swiss players.
Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri have previously celebrated this with the Albanian Eagle – the nationalist symbol of their ethnic heritage.
Shaqiri was born in Kosovo (a former Serbian province that declared independence in 2008).
Serbia does not recognize Kosovo's independence and relations remain tense, with many families choosing to move to other European countries, including Switzerland.
The rivalry often causes controversy with Xhaka involved in some spicy moments over the years, including “rattling” the Serbian bench by taking his NUTS during the 2022 World Cup.
