Arne Slot believes that Liverpool Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah signs new contracts, shows the club's ambition.
Both players were ready to leave Liverpool as free agents at the end of the season, but Salah put pen on paper last Friday for a new two -year -old deal, where Van Dijk did the same on Thursday.
This season, Salah is involved in 45 Premier League goals (27 goals, 18 assists), a record for a 38-game season, and he is now only two discounts on the record of Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.
In the meantime, Van Dijk seems to be leading Liverpool to a second Premier League title this season, with his winning goal against West Ham last weekend that moves them closer to that triumph, which can be sealed this weekend as Arsenal loses and win the Reds.
Slot was pleased that Van Dijk chose to stay at the club until at least June 2027, and noticed how essential he plays a role among the team.
“It is always difficult to describe [how important Van Dijk is]”He said.” You know how important he is when you see him play, that's what we all see.
“I mainly watch football and look at ball possession, and he is so good at releasing the ball from behind and his diagonal fits.
“And then the leader he is around the training field is something that I never work with a player like he has worked in terms of his leadership and the energy that he brings to the team in every training session.
“He has a major influence at this club, but the most important influence he has is of course at the weekend.
“[Him staying] Tells you that we want to keep our best players, and the fact that we can keep them if they are a free agent, tells you the ambitions we have in the coming years.
“I am really happy that they both extended. We spoke about Mo Salah last week, and Virgil is so important for us defensive, attacking, in and around the dressing room – he is a great personality and a great football player.”
A player whose future stays in the air is Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is strongly connected to a move to Real Madrid when his contract ends in June.
Only Salah (74) has created more opportunities this season than the right back (51) in the Premier League, where Alexander-Arnold also offers six assists, another count that is only defeated by the Egyptian.
Finally, his position about not discussing the contractual situations of his players maintained, but he praised Alexander-Arnold for his attitude while he continues to recover from an ankle injury.
“We don't talk about these things if they are not ready yet, and they are not,” he said about the 26-year-old, who could start on the couch against Leicester City on Sunday.
“Trent comes back from an injury. He trained with us yesterday, and every time he plays with us and trains with us, he shows his dedication.
“He has worked so hard to be back now, and the moment he is on the field, he shows me what a great football player he is.
“The fans of Liverpool and everyone who watches football knows that he is an incredible full-back has been an incredible full-back for this football club, so let's see what the future brings.”
