Slot not bothered about theories on when Liverpool could win the league title

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is not dragged over the 12-point lead of his team at the top of the Premier League prior to their journey to Fulham on Sunday.

The Reds defeated Everton 1-0 on Anfield on Wednesday to restore that pillow after Arsenal cut it to nine points after winning 2-1 at home at the Cottagers on Tuesday.

But according to Slot, they simply focus on the next game instead of a little too far ahead.

“We don't work on theories about how many points [this or that would be]”He said.

“We take on Fulham's challenge for Sunday, when we have to be at our best to get a result.”

Slot spoke only one day after their victory over Everton with the media, where the decision to give defender James Tarkowski no red card for a dangerous tackle on Alexis Mac Allister.

But the Dutchman did not want to spend time focusing on the decision and acknowledge that human errors can happen to anyone.

“I think mistakes are made everywhere all over the world,” he said.

“This is something in the competition where I came from. We all strive for a competition without mistakes.” I strive for a season without making one mistake in the line -ups that I make, but unfortunately this will probably never happen – not with me and not with decisions about referee.

“Mistakes are made. If a referee makes a wrong decision, everyone will fall over it. If I make the wrong line-up, everyone will fall over it. I think it's a very good season for referees in England, actually.”

Fulham -Head coach Marco Silva meanwhile called together in the midweek by Arsenal after his side.

“We share the good moments and the good vibes together. If you don't achieve something important, such as a football match that we want to win, then you have to share the disappointment,” he said.

“But at the same time we have to work faster and prepare ourselves faster for the next one, as we have done since the start of the season.”

Looking ahead to the challenge of the League leaders, Silva knows that there is a minimal margin of error.

“It will be a game that requires us to almost be in perfection,” he said.

“From our side we have to fight very hard for the three points. We are also in our own fight. They want the three points to be closer to the title, we want our three points for our own fight.”

Players to watch

Fulham: Antonee Robinson

Only Mohamed Salah (17) has so far placed more assists in the Premier League than Antonee Robinson (10).

That number of assists is a career the best for the United States International, whose previous best was six.

Liverpool: Mohamed Salah

Salah has had exactly two goals in each of his last four away Premier League performances. No player has ever done this in Five Away matches in a row, with Thierry Henry also having a point of four between April and August 2003.

The Egyptian is both the top scorer in the Premier League this season with 27 goals and the top assistant with 17 assists.

Match prediction: Liverpool Win

Fulham has only won one of their last 13 Premier League matches against Liverpool (D3 L9) and defeated them 1-0 in Anfield in March 2021.

Silva's side has picked up one point in their last 11 Premier League matches against teams that start the day off the table (D1 L10), although it was against Liverpool in the reverse fixture of this season, a 2-2 draw.

Liverpool has since been unbeaten in their last six in the league matches against Fulham (W4 D2) since a 1-0 loss in December 2011 under Kenny Dalglish.

This season they also scored 38 goals in 15 Road Premier League matches, an average of 2.53 goals per match. That is the best in a top season, and also scores with the same pace in 2013-14 (48 in 19 games, 2.53).

The League leaders have been unbeaten 17 Premier League games (W10 D7), who only have a longer run in the competition between January 2019 and February 2020 (21 games).
