Liverpool -Baas Arne Slot admitted that Liverpool was driving their happiness against PSG on Wednesday, but they were largely responsible for their own fortune this season.
Paris Saint-Germain was a good prize for a victory of two or three goals in the Last-16-stage of the Champions League, but ended with nothing after Harvey Elliott had put on his first touch after he had entered as a replacement.
The Reds only had two shots in the night, while their hosts had 27 and 71 percent of the ball, but an inspired display from goalkeeper Alisson Becker helped them to keep them in.
“We were not a little bit (luck), we were very, very, very good luck!” Said Slot on Friday in his press conference prior to the Premier League collision on Saturday with Southampton.
“But as Michael Jordan said, the harder you work, the greater happiness you have.”
Slot was also asked whether Liverpool was generally lucky this season, something that fans of their rivals claimed.
“If you think that injuries are only happiness or bad luck, then we've been lucky, but we tried to prevent them from working a certain way of working,” he answered.
“So that we didn't have many injuries, I don't see that as happiness.”
The Dutchman also called on both players and fans to treat the visit of the Saints as a cup final.
A victory would see his side 16 points clearly go with Arsenal who visits Manchester United on Sunday.
Most see the match against the soil club of the top flight as a formality with much of the focus on next week's second stage with PSG and the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle.
“For me, the one against Southampton is by far the most important,” said Slot.
'I have to convince my players that we play three finals and I hope I influence our fans so that they understand how important they will be.
'I hope that they will not enter the stadium five minutes before the kick -off, I hope that the stadium has been filled for half an hour, so that these players get the reward for what they did in Paris.
“I know the final is there and everyone is already talking to me about what the atmosphere will be on a Champions League evening, but I really hope that our fans will be on their loudest tomorrow.”
