Slot relieved to see tired Liverpool pass Wolves test

Arne Slot blamed Liverpool's Under-PAR performance against Wolves for fatigue and expressed lighting after seeing his players overcome a strict mental test in Anfield.

Liverpool recovered their seven-point lead on Premier League title Rivals Arsenal with a 2-1 victory over the wrestlers of Vitor Pereira, although they had to work for the points.

Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah met to give the Reds a 2-0 first half a lead, but after Salah had spoken a potential second strike for offside and a fine won by Diogo Jota was destroyed after a VAR review, Wolves stormed back in the competition.

The long -term curler of Matheus Cunha gave them hope for a memorable fightback, but they were just unable to find a late equalizer despite accumulation on the pressure.

It was the first time on Record (since 2003-04) that Liverpool was unable to include a single shot in the second half of a Premier League match in Anfield, where Wolves tried 10 shots.

But Slot was delighted to see his backline survive a tense finish, especially after admitting a 98th-minute equalizer in Wednesday's 2-2 Derby-equal game with Everton.

“It's just as big as everyone else. I said in the dressing room that you might be a bit disappointed because it wasn't our best second half. But we fought to the end,” Slot told Sky Sports.

“In a season where you want to achieve something, regardless of what you want to achieve, you also need these kinds of victories.

“Two weeks ago we played fantastic football when we defeated Spurs 4-0. That happens in a season. But profits like this should also be part of a season like this.”

Liverpool had never had a full half of Premier League football at home without trying a shot (since 2003-04), and Slot felt tired legs a major role.

“It is never the game plan, not at all to create anything! We had a few promising situations, but one of them was not allowed for offside, one of them was a penalty destroyed by VAR,” he added.

“We were not enough of a target threat in the second half. You always wonder if it comes from a lot of mental fatigue after all the events that took place in the last match.

“Again, today we were mentally tested. We thought we had the third, we thought we had the punishment for the third – both were treated correctly by the referee. But then to admit it for 2-1, that was a mental test.

“If you feel the stress, you might feel a little tired. It might be the first time this season that players were more tired than in other games.”

Liverpool can now go 10 points at the top when they visit Aston Villa for a rear -up game on Wednesday, with Arsenal Pas in action until next Saturday.

Slot does not expect that the pace of the title race will leave, and adds: “You can never breathe this competition. Arsenal is on an unbeaten run of 15 games with 10 wins, five draws.

“During these 15 games, the gap has always been seven points. So that tells you what we do and what they do. That makes the Premier League great.

“Between the last two seasons it was between Arsenal and City, both had to keep winning. Now we are also involved. If you want to compete for something special, you have to win a lot of games.
