Slot wants Salah to extend Liverpool contract despite Saudi Arabia interest

Liverpool -head coach Arne Slot said that he wants Mohamed Salah to expand his contract with the Reds, despite being associated with a move to the Saudi Pro League.

The current Salah deal is at the end of the current campaign and the Egypt International said at the beginning of January that it is its last season with the club with “no progress” in conversations for an extension.

And Slot was asked about the Saudi Aarabia Sport -Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal's comments that he would like to see Salah playing for a club in the Saudi flight.

“It would be a surprise if someone said they didn't want Mo Salah,” said Slot before the Premier League leader of Bournemouth on Saturday.

“He has done so well for so many years that everyone probably wants him.

“He did so well without my advice, so that he can continue to do what is best for his career, even without my advice. My advice to him would be different from that [of Al Faisal].

“Everyone wants him, including us. We naturally want him to extend. That is clear.”

Salah has registered 19 goals and 13 assists in just 22 Premier League performances during Slot's first season in Liverpool after replacing previous boss Jurgen Klopp.

The Egyptian is only one goal from his fifth 20-goal season in the Premier League. Only Alan Shearer (seven times), Thierry Henry (five), Sergio Agüero (six) and Harry Kane (six) have achieved more.

Salah, who scored previous time-out in the 4-1 win against Ipswich Town, is also only one goal (176) behind Frank Lampard (177) among the top scorers of All-Time Premier League.

Shearer (260), Kane (213), Wayne Rooney (208), Andy Cole (187), Aguero (184) are the other players in the list for him.

“I am not surprised that someone wants him. He has done so many smart things in his career, so he will make the right decision for himself and hopefully also for us,” Slot added.

Salah came to the Merseyside Club from Roma in 2017 and previously also played for Basel, Chelsea and Fiorentina.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold are also from the contract this summer.

'Naturally. I speak with these players, not every day like [sporting director] Richard [Hughes] But a lot, “said Slot.

“It would be ridiculous if we didn't talk about the future in all those times. Of course we will do that. But that's not something I'm going to discuss [with the media]. It is not only with the three who have no contract, you also talk about the future with other players. It is a non-stop process that talks to your players. “
