Son accepts ‘painful’ Leicester defeat is ‘not good enough’ for Spurs

Tottenham Captain Son Heung-Min acknowledged that the shape of his team is not good enough after they were stunned by Leicester City in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

The hosts had taken the lead by Richarlison, but after 50 minutes behind Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss scored immediately after the break.

Tottenham did not succeed in winning one of their last seven Top-Flight games (D1 L6), their longest Windless Run in the top flight since a Stint of Nine Races between May and October 2008.

The defeat was also the first time since a loss for Notts County in 1912 that Spurs Lost at home against one side that had lost their previous seven league matches in succession.

Ange Postecoglou's side is 15th in the rankings in a season hindered by various injuries for players from the first team in the entire team.

Son, however, refused to accept that their absenters were an excuse for their shortcomings and said: “It is painful. It has happened a few times this season.

“It feels like scoring goals is so difficult, but admitting goals is way too easy. I haven't seen them back yet, but it's a lack of concentration, certainly and a little carelessness.

“We knew they would come. We have to sit down and talk about what went wrong.

“I played more games than I expected, but that is our task. Mentally we just have to innovate and prepare and go again. I know it can be difficult.

“If you get victories, you can get better feelings, but it is more difficult after today. It is very difficult at the moment.”

Tottenham is eight points free from relegation, but Son did not want to place them in a fight to stay up.

“It's absolutely not good enough. We have had far too many losses, but there are still many games left, and we have many players back,” Son added.

“We are not talking about anything, we just play every game and try to get three points.”
