Tottenham captain son Heung-Min says that Ange Postecoglou is a “legend” who has “changed the club's process”.
Postecoglou was fired on Friday, just over two weeks after the end of the 17-year-old trophy-dried of Spurs by winning the Europa League title, and two years until the day he was announced as a manager.
Spurs, however, underwent an underwhelming season in the Premier League, finished 17th and lost 22 of their matches it is only the second time they have lost so many games (after 1934-35), with 10 of those who come home floor, their most since 1991-92 (11).
The dismissal of Postecoglou means that he is the first Premier League manager who wins a big trophy and is fired at the end of that season since Antonio Conte in 2017-18 with Chelsea (FA Cup).
“Gaffer. You changed the process of this club,” Son posted on Instagram.
“You believed in yourself and us since the first day and never staggered a second. Even when others did.
'You knew where we could go all the time. You did it your way. And your way brought this club the best evening he had in decades. We will have those memories for life.
'You trusted me with the captain. One of the highest awards of my career. It was an incredible privilege to learn from your leadership up close. I am a better player and a better person because of you.
“Ange postecoglou, you are forever a Tottenham Hotspur legend. Thanks, size.”
Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who was signed by Postecoglou in 2023, also paid tribute to the Australian.
“Boss, I just want to say a huge thank you for everything you have done for me and for all of us,” he said.
“From that very first phone call, from the beginning, you always showed so much faith in me.
“I give myself the chance to be part of the leadership group … Those moments, and many others, will stay with me forever.
“You are not just a top manager, you are an incredible person to work for, a real leader, a mentor and someone I will always look up to.
“What we have achieved together will remain in the history books.
'I wish you nothing but success, as I know that you will continue to achieve more and more. Thank you, Boss. Forever grateful. '
Thomas Frank van Brentford is currently the leader who replaces Postecoglou, by Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva, Oliver Glasner and former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino who is also connected to the vacancy.
