Spurs Captain Son is desperate to get a trophy in the club for 17 years without silverware, while looking for next week's Europa League confrontation against Manchester United
Son Heung-Min believes that nobody wants to bring more to Tottenham than he. And after experiencing two earlier definitive defeats, he believes that this team has 'all the pieces to complete the puzzle' against Manchester United next week.
Captain Son returned from a month on Sunday with a foot injury as a replacement against Crystal Palace and he will perform on Aston Villa on Friday.
And although Ange Postecoglou says that he will not have the heart rule over his head when it comes to determining his starting team in Bilbao, Son says the chance of being a central part of the team that finally ends the long waiting time for a trophy is what he has kept in North London.
“We have been talking about this for years. The biggest reason why I was staying at Tottenham was because I wanted to do something that others could not achieve,” he said. “That's probably why I'm where I am now.
“You need all the pieces to complete a puzzle. I think I have collected all the other pieces to complete that puzzle.
“It feels like I missed that most important last piece, and I have tried to find it in the last ten years. I really hope that I can finally complete the puzzle this time.”
Son and defender Ben Davies are the only remaining players left from the 2019 Champions League Final League against Liverpool. He was also a second place in the EFL Cup and lost to Manchester City four seasons ago, and he wants to channel the pain of those defeats.
“I believe that I certainly learned something from those failures,” he added. “It is important for me and the more experienced players to share those experiences with the current team.
“It feels different this time. I really want to win – more than anyone, I think. So many people support us with the same desperate passion that I feel.”
Son has spoken with former Captain Harry Kane since the striker finally ended his waiting for silverware by winning the Bundesliga in Bayern Munich.
“I was really happy to see him,” Son added. “He is one of my best friends and to see a teammate so much to achieve, I was very happy that he is my family.
“With that positive energy I hope that he can also support traces in the game, so that we can achieve a good result such as his.”
