Tottenham captain son Heung-Min believes that the 1-0 defeat, for his side, should come in the first stage of their Europa League Last-16 draw as “a big wake-up call”.
Lucas Bergvall's own goal turned out to be the difference between the parties, because poor traces only registered one shot on goal during their journey to Alkmaar.
Only in the defeat of Liverpool last month Tottenham have registered less shots on Target this season.
“It's not nearly where we have to perform,” Son told TNT Sports after the game.
“It was very disappointing that we performed that way, including me.”
The hope of Tottenham to win silverware this season will be over if they will not destroy the shortage in the second stage in London next Thursday.
“It's a big wake-up call because next week is the biggest game of the season,” said the Spurs Skipper.
“Everyone is very disappointed about the individual performance and the team performance. We have to look at ourselves.
“There are no excuses, we were not good enough. It's just 1-0, it's still not ready, and next week we have to be much better.”

Spurs -Baas Ange Postecoglou also repeated the feelings of the captain.
“It wasn't a great evening for us. It is clearly a disappointing result but a really disappointing performance,” he said.
“We never got a grip on the game, have no real control at any stage. We always had a hard time on and next to the ball. But it is only halfway and we are still in the draw.”
To make things worse for the Premier League side, they will be without Rodrigo Bentancur for the home leg after the midfielder had picked up a third booking of the season.
“We always ran the cord with him on the yellow cards. It is disappointing to lose him for the second stage, but we have seven days to tackle that,” said Postecoglou.
Meanwhile, Dominic Solanke only lasted 20 minutes after his return after seven weeks and took a blow in the stopping time.
“I think it was a knock, hopefully it is nothing bad,” said the Spurs boss about the Solanke injury.
