Spain fear they have lost out on breakout star in Serie A

Spain seems to have a golden generation come through, although few predict that it will be at the level of their earlier success between 2008 and 2012. But led by Lamine Yamal, Gavi, Pedri and Nico Williams, a wave of new talent helped La Roja to the Euro 2024 title, and A Priori will be one of the favorites for the World Cup 2026.

However, an area where they have less depth is the forward position. Captain Alvaro Morata, Joselu Mato and Ayoze Perez formed the trio of options through the middle for Spain manager Luis de la Fuente last summer in Germany, but all three are in the thirty. Both Joselu and Morata competed at the highest level of Spanish football last season, but are now in Qatar and Turkiye respectively, although Aymeric Laporte has shown that this is not necessarily a decisive factor.

Porto striker Samu Omorodion is tipped as the final replacement of Morata, but another alternative that might have been to Luis de la Fuente's spirit is Assane Diao. Diao comes as a winger at Real Betis, has shown promising, but since he moved to the Serie A in January, it has been in sparkling form.

The 19-year-old works as a central by Cesc Fabegas in Como, and forming a fatal partnership with Nico Paz, already has five goals in his opening of eight games in Italy. He recently scored against Napoli, Fiorentina and Juventus also in succession.

Cadena Ser reports that the Spanish federation fears that they will never see him wear La Roja, in the conviction that Senegal has stolen a march about them when it comes to his international loyalty. According to reports in Italy, Diao has already met the Senegal manager Pape Thiaw in Italy and dedicated to representing the land of his birth. Diao was born in Senegal and moved to Badajoz in Spain at the age of three. Diao has represented Spain at level under 18, under 19 and under 21, but it seems that he will not make a senior appearance.

RFEF -President Rafael Louzan is said to be more on top of talents with multiple nationalities, and the next potential battle along the way is Stefan Bajcetic in Liverpool, who is on loan in Las Palmas, and has Serbian parent.
