Spanish club confirm Chelsea target will not leave in January

Yeremay Hernandez has sparked plenty of transfer speculation in recent weeks, with Chelsea making multiple offers for the talented 22-year-old winger, who has been in excellent form for Deportivo La Coruna this season. However, it turns out he won't be going anywhere.

Chelsea's last offer was €15 million, but it was rejected as only bids of €20 million, which is Yeremay's release clause, would be honored. However, the player himself would reject any claim even if it were to be triggered, as Deportivo confirmed in an official statement that it has been agreed that the two sides will remain together until the end of the season.

“RC Deportivo and Yeremay Hernandez Cubas have agreed to continue together despite all the offers that the Canarian footballer has received during the current transfer market. This is a process that strengthens mutual commitment to the Club's project in the long term.

“The Club and the player, who has a contract with Deportivo until 2030, were the subject of numerous proposals, but both parties decided to continue working together to continue their mutual growth.

“Yeremay, consolidated as one of the great figures of the first team, is a fundamental alliance in building the future of Deportivo. This season, the '10' has played 19 matches, scoring 8 goals and providing 3 assists, decisively contributing to the team's goals of not returning to professional football.

“RC Deportivo celebrates Yeremay's decision to continue writing his history with the Club and thanks his confidence in a project that continues to grow.”

It is excellent news for Deportivo that Yeremay will not be leaving mid-season as they desperately needed him to stay as they are involved in the Segunda's relegation battle. The funds would have been nice, although in the short term it is more important that they remain in the second tier of Spanish football.
