It appears the Royal Spanish Football Federation has reached an agreement with national coach Luis de la Fuente on a new contract, after months of speculation that he was unhappy with his current deal. La Roja has not extended De la Fuente since he came into the role, but he has exceeded all expectations.
De la Fuente guided Spain to Euro 2024 and was keen to stay at Las Rozas, but the RFEF could not offer him a new contract until a president was elected. Now incumbent Rafael Louzan has reached an agreement with de la Fuente on a contract that will eclipse €2 million per year including bonuses. It is a far cry from the three to four million euros he was hoping for, but his contract will be extended until at least 2028, Cadena SER says, and possibly beyond.
It always seemed unlikely that De la Fuente would threaten to move elsewhere after his success with Spain at the age of 63, having spent more than a decade as a coach in the Federation. However, for the RFEF, it was undoubtedly important for Louzan to tie up a loose end. It is believed his new deal will be more than double what he previously earned.
