Spurs goalkeeper Vicario spotted furiously berating his own team-mates in stands

TOTTENHAM goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario reacted angrily to Fraser Forster's second howler last night.

Ange Postecoglou's side have dumped Manchester United out of the League Cup after a 4-3 thriller in north London.

Spurs were already 3-0 on the hour mark thanks to Dominic Solanke's double and a goal from Dejan Kulusevski.

But the Red Devils were offered a route back into the match after two Forster clashes.

The veteran's first mistake came on 63 minutes, when he received a pass from stand-in centre-back Archie Gray.

Forster tried to pass the ball to Radu Dragusin with his left foot, but got it all wrong.

Bruno Fernandes pounced on the loose pass and squared it across for Joshua Zirkzee to poke home.

Just seven minutes later, Forster made an even worse mistake.

Once again the former Celtic stopper was met with a back pass from Gray and took forever to launch a goal kick.

By the time he did, Amad Diallo was on his tail, with the winger sliding in and blocking the ball towards the net to make it 3-2.

At that point, cameras showed Vicario watching from next to the dugout.

The 28-year-old Italian has been sidelined since breaking his ankle during the 4-0 win over Manchester City last month.

Looking between Mikey Moore and Destiny Udogie, the Spurs number one muttered angrily after Man Utd's second goal.

It is unclear whether he was angry at Forster for his mistakes, or at the Spurs defenders for putting the veteran in those situations.

Tottenham restored a two-goal lead on 88 minutes when Son Heung-min's brilliant corner went straight over the hapless United substitute stopper Altay Bayindir and headed home.

Jonny Evans nodded United back to 4-3 in stoppage time, but Spurs managed to hold on and book a place in the semi-finals.

After the final whistle, Vicario hobbled towards Forster with his crutches.

The animated goalkeeper appeared to console his buddy on the field after the dramatic match.

Vicario is not expected to be missing until February at the earliest.

Forster will have plenty of opportunities to atone between now and then, ahead of academy products Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman.

Asked whether he would consider signing a free agent goalkeeper after Vicario's injury, Postecoglou said last month: “That's not going to happen. That's why we have a selection of players here. I don't think signing a free agent agent-goalkeeper agent is going to help us now.

“I have known Fraser for a long time and he has such a strong character within the group and is ready to play. Brandon is going from strength to strength and Alfie has been at the club for a while.

“Every time we ask them in terms of the training capacity they bring, we are happy with what we have.”

Spurs have also loaned Josh Keeley, who memorably scored in the FA Cup earlier this season, to Leyton Orient, while 19-year-old Luca Gunter is highly rated at the club.
