It appears Barcelona will not make a move for Lille striker Jonathan David in the coming weeks as the Canadian striker makes his decision on his future. The 24-year-old can sign a pre-contract with other clubs from January 1 and has so far rejected every offer from Les Dogues.
David had expressed his desire to play for Barcelona, having grown up a fan of the club, but the Blaugrana have postponed any decision on a transfer for him, and by the time they make that decision, David may have already made up his mind about his future. Sport says David will wait to see if Barcelona do something for him, but not for long.
Amid a lot of interest from the Premier League, Inter, Juventus and Bayern Munich, the Catalan daily says he already has a lucrative offer on the table from Tottenham Hotspur. Both Barcelona sporting director Deco and manager Hansi Flick have expressed doubts about his ability to thrive without space to run into, which is the main reason they have not acted on any of the 2025 market opportunities.
Barcelona tend to face crowded defenses deeper in Spain for the most part, even though they have become more direct this season under Flick, hoping to hit many teams on half-time. With Robert Lewandowski turning 37 next year, they are halfway through looking for an alternative for him for next summer.
