Arsenal – wing player Raheem Sterling has admitted that he did not play as often as he had wanted to loan the Emirates – but promised to “knock on the door” after his excellent display against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday evening.
Sterling set both goals for Arsenal in their 2-2 draw against the Dutch side in the Champions League Last-16 second stage when the team won a 9-3 total victory to set up a quarter-final draw with Real Madrid.
The International International Teed Up Oleksandr Zinchenko's Piledriver to open the score before it hit a fantastic bustling cross for Declan Rice to nod Arsenal in the front after Ivan Perisic was leveled.
It was demonstrably the best performance of sterling in an arsenal shirt since he was on loan at Chelsea, but only started seven times in all competitions under Mikel Arteta. Sterling said that he always had faith in his assets and remained focused on impressive when he got the chance.
“It was nice to be there and contribute to the team,” he told TNT Sports. “I know where I am in. You just want to play. You are in a top club with top players and you just have to wait for your moment. And that is what I do. I am still faithful that I still have a big role to play.
“You can only determine what you can control. I didn't have as many minutes as I wanted, but I had the opportunities. It is up to myself to keep beating at the door. I believe in myself that I have a lot to play here, whether it is 10 minutes, 45 or a start. I just have to be ready and help the team as much as possible.
“With a leader like Mikel, he is not someone I want to be physically at his door, he is the one who is in charge. The only thing I can do is what I can do is on the training field or here. It is up to me to keep pushing and having it in his thinking process.”
Sterling now has one goal and four assists in all competitions, but has not been able to help Arsenal in the Premier League since he joined Stamford Bridge.
In the title race, the Gunners slipped 15 points behind the League leaders Liverpool, but Sterling still wants to help the team push the Reds as far as possible.
“Yes, we are a few points behind [in the Premier League] But there are all different circumstances [for that]. I think the boys really did well and in the last part of the season [are ready] To give it the right push. “
Sterling will not be available for the next match of Arsenal, because they welcome his parent club Chelsea to the Emirates, while he will also be suspended for the visit of Real Madrid in the quarterfinals of the Champions League after collecting a late yellow card.
