Stunned Arsenal fans just realising length of Myles Lewis-Skelly ban and say ‘talk about giving Man City a chance’

Arsenal fans are fuming that Myles Lewis-Skelly is now facing a three-match ban.

The Academy graduate, 18, was sent off for a foul on Matt Doherty in the 43rd minute of his side's clash with Wolves.

The cynical trip was deemed “serious foul play” by referee Michael Oliver.

Premier League Match Center went on to clarify on social media: “The referee's call of a red card for Lewis-Skelly was checked and confirmed by Var, who regarded his challenge as serious foul play.”

Following the incident, some fans online urged Lewis-Skelly to be in line for a three-match ban for his attack.

One wrote on social media: “That's Lewis Skelly for 3 games now talking about giving his friends in town a chance.”

The full-back will not be suspended for the Champions League trip to Girona.

His ban, valid only for domestic matches, starts with next week's clash with Manchester City at the Emirates.

He will then be in line to miss the Semi-Final second leg of the Carabao Cup at Newcastle and a draw to Leicester.

Joao Gomes was then sent off for a second bookable offence, meaning he will receive a one-match ban.

This has prompted one Arsenal fan to chant: “Gomes will only serve a 1-game ban for an ankle-breaking tackle, while Miles Lewis Skelly will serve a 3-game ban for a tactical foul. The Michael Oliver Logic.”

A further supporter shouted: “So basically if we don't win the draw on Skelly he gets a 3 match ban and Gomes gets a 1 match ban for 2 yellows and a worse tackle. F***ing shambles.”

Another added: “These guys think we're idiots! Lewis Skelly gets a straight red and 3 match ban, but Gomes gets a second yellow for exactly the same challenge.”

New Match of the Day presenter Mark Chapman disagreed with Oliver's decision.

He called the decision “baffling and nonsensical from supposedly one of our best referees.”

After the match became 10 vs 10, Arsenal took the lead through Riccardo Calafiori on 74 minutes.

The Gunners went into the match 1-0.

After full-time, Boss told Arteta he was “gutted” about the red card.

He said, 'It's so obvious that I'll leave it to you. I'm absolutely fuming, but I'll leave it with you – because it's so obvious. I don't think my words are going to help.

“I think it's so clear that we don't need any comments today and hopefully the right thing will happen after today.

“Hopefully we don't have to (appeal) and, if we do [to]it happened and it really sets a good precedent for whatever happened to Bruno this season.

“So, hopefully, okay, we were in a position that we shouldn't be in. Let's at least be in a position that we should be in for the next few weeks and continue to do that player's job.”
