Elsewhere, Coventry City moved back within a point of the play-off places after a 2-1 win at home to Preston North End.
Frank Lampard's silk entered during the break with a lead of two goals thanks to the efforts of Jack Rudoni and Bobby Thomas.
Will Keane's goal to go with eight minutes made it a nervy final for the home team, but they held to achieve a seventh victory in eight games. Preston is 17th, 12 points above the relegation zone.

Norwich City broke a three-game Windless Streak to get their play-off pursuit back on the right track with a 4-2 victory at home at Stoke City, leaving their visitors in relegation problems.
Lewis Dobbin opened the score for the Canaryen halfway through the first half, but Lewis Baker got Stoke again against the Run of Play in the first half of the stop time.
A second half of Josh Sargent and a private goal from Junior Tchamadeu, however, provided three points for the hosts before Baker scored a comfort from the penalty spot in the 97th minute.
Norwich is four points of the top six, while Stoke is only five points above the drop zone.

Derby fell to the second soil in the table after losing 1-0 from Millwall with a 95th minute goal. Josh Coburn tapped an escape for Millwall, who had saved a penalty in the 83rd minute to help them climb to the 10th.
The side of John Eustace is now four points of safety, which have played a match more than Cardiff City in the fourth soil.

Portsmouth made three victories over the bouncing with a 2-1 victory over Queen's Park Rangers in Fratton Park, which was also their eighth home win in 11.
Josh Murphy and Matt Ritchie did the damage for Pompey with two goals in three minutes at the start of the second half and, while Jimmy Dunne later got one back for the hosts, they could hold.
Portsmouth climbs to the 17th after the result, nine points above the bottom three, while QPR is 14th.
