Supercomputer predicts just how badly Man Utd’s first season under Ruben Amorim will end with worst ever finish on cards

MANCHESTER UNITED are tipped for their worst ever Premier League finish this season, according to a supercomputer.

The Red Devils finished the 2023/24 season in eighth place under Erik ten Hag, their lowest final position since the league was founded in 1992/93.

But they found themselves in the bottom half of the table on Christmas Day for the first time in the Premier League this year.

And their Boxing Day defeat at Wolves only added to the misery for everyone involved with the club.

Now Opta's calculator has made its predictions for the rest of the season.

And it is not pleasant reading for United.

That is because Opta thinks that the Red Devils will most likely finish in twelfth place.

According to the figures, their chance of finishing in twelfth place is 13.7 percent.

Then it is 13.3 percent for 13th, 13.1 percent for 11th and 11.2 percent to enter the top half in tenth place.

Ruben Amorim's team has about an equal chance of finishing ninth (9.6 percent) or fourteenth (9.7 percent) after 38 games.

And most worryingly, the fallen giants are more likely to be relegated (0.1 percent to finish 18th) than to win the title or finish second (0.0 percent).

United currently sit 14th in the table with just 22 points from their 18 Premier League games – with six wins, four draws, eight defeats and a goal difference of -3.

Their nightmare week was made worse at Wolves when they lost their third game in a row.

The club were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Tottenham before a 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth and then the shock 2-0 defeat to the struggling Molineux team.

Their chances of beating Wolves were not helped by Bruno Fernandes being sent off for the third time this season, but the dismal performance nevertheless drew boos from the traveling supporters and further anger from fans online.

Amorim's men now sit just eight points ahead of Leicester in the relegation zone – and a whopping 20 points ahead of leaders Liverpool before they reach the halfway point of the season.

It is not surprising that the Opta figures have Liverpool as big favorites to maintain their leading lead.

The Reds are 88.0 percent top of the table at the end of the season, with Arsenal (10.3 percent), Chelsea (1.5 percent) and Manchester City (0.3 percent) making up the rest.

Arsenal will most likely finish second, while Chelsea are tipped for third and City squeeze into the top four.

At the other end of the table, the newly promoted trio of Southampton, Ipswich and Leicester appear to be heading straight back down.
