Surging contender stopped top 10 opponent with one-shot KO in 28 seconds before being named UFC’s newcomer of the year

A new competitor continued his meteoric turnout with a statement knocked out on this day in 2017.

For a long time, light heavyweight was the selection framework of the UFC with iconic rivals that produced a number of classic fights.

Jon Jones made up a lot of those names during his remarkable title run, but when 'Bones' was not there, there was still an elite hunter who was at the top.

Daniel Cormier proved that he was the best of the rest by beating Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony 'Rumble' Johnson.

When 'DC' lived the title back after Jones was stripped after their second collision at UFC 214, Cormier needed new challenges and luckily for him a new competition came out of nothing in 2017.

Volkan Ozdemir slept Misha Cirkunov with a difficult One-shot knockout in just 28 seconds

On 28 May 2017, the UFC returned to Stockholm, Sweden, where two important attacks in the light heavyweight division would surpass the map.

The night ended with a clinic by Alexander Gustafsson who stopped Glover Teixeira, but the CO-Main event was just as important for the landscape on 205 pounds.

Volkan Uzdemir made a UFC debut in the short term in February 2017, where he attracted a shocking result and defeated the #6 ranked Ovince St. Preux through a split decision.

In his second outing he saw the #7-ranged Misha Cirkunov, where he showed that he was a real threat in this division.

In the first 30 seconds, Cirkunov came to him with a short right hand of Uzdemir, who did not seem to land with much force and immediately sent his opponent to the canvas in a representation of his devastating force.

The Swiss striker would follow that with a second first round knockout victory on a top candidate to earn the UFC's Newcomer of the Year Award for 2017.

The Volkan Uzdemir -Hype train was completely dismantled by Daniel Cormier

On UFC 214, Volkan Uzdemir set his status as the best competition by stopping Jimi Manuwa after a crazy first round.

With Daniel Cormier, who threw the light heavyweight title back after Jones was stripped, already beat many of the top names in the division, there was no debate about what the next title fight should be.

'DC' dominated Uzdemir on UFC 220 and ended him in the second round after catching the challenger in a crucifix position.

Uzdemir currently has the #9 ranking order, which was recently defeated by Carlos Ulberg at UFC Macau last November.
