The referee in the middle of the penalty of Julian Alvarez 'Double Touch' has finally spoken about his decision.
The story has dominated the headlines throughout Europe after the dramatic UEFA Champions League -Penalty Shootout by Atletico Madrid on March 13.
Los Rojiblancos brought the match on 2-2 on aggregated when the early goal of Conor Gallagher brought the match level in the last 16 second stage.
However, controversy prevailed over the Estadio Metropolitano, because the spot kick from Alvarez was controversially excluded Polish official Szymon Marciniak and his team.
After a brief consultation with his VAR, Marciniak concluded the efforts of Alvarez – who had defeated Thibaut Courtois – as the second penalty by Atletico Madrid.
The Argentinian was assessed to have touched the ball twice while he was over -slid in converting, but every 'second contact' remains broadly debated.
From expert video – analysis/slow motion repetitions, in the midst of claims that it never happens before – and Atletico Madrid is punished unfairly – the football world is fascinated by the row.
However, the person with the most questions to answer is Marciniak, and he is clear in his vision that the call is correct despite the fact that the new site has been broken for all involved.
“I was the one who informed the VAR that there was a 99% chance that Alvarez hit the ball twice, and they checked him thoroughly,” he said.
“It is absolutely false that Mbappe said something to me about two details.
“To be honest, I had never confronted such a situation in my referee career, but the players are aware of the rules.”
The row is expected to roll through until the end of the campaign with Diego Simeone, which claims post match that no one could be clear about this issue.
The two rivals can still face each other before the 2024/25 campaign ends when they reach the Copa del Rey final in April.
