TAA saga takes fresh twist amid claims he’s ‘ignoring Liverpool’

Trent Alexander-Arnold has moved closer to Real Madrid and is ignoring Liverpool's contract offers, according to reports in Spain.

The Reds defender has just six months left on his current contract. He can start talks with foreign clubs about a free summer transfer once options open on January 1.

Real Madrid are the side most strongly linked to Alexander-Arnold, with claims suggesting they are targeting him on a free transfer. It is also claimed that they could have even made a move to January due to a long-term injury suffered by Dani Carvajal.

And according to Spanish reports, only a few final details need to be sorted out before a transfer is completed. According to Spanish newspaper AS, the England defender is on the verge of becoming a Real Madrid player and a move to the Santiago Bernabeu is 'almost complete'.

It is suggested the move will be completed in the summer, with Alexander-Arnold reluctant to push for a mid-season departure from his boyhood club. Any announcement will reportedly be delayed out of respect for the Reds.

The latest developments come after it was claimed the defender had remained silent on his future – including when it comes to Liverpool. Meanwhile, Reds boss Arne Slot provided a small update on Alexander-Arnold and the club's other two uncontracted players, Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Last week the Dutchman said: “In general I don't talk about contract situations here. It would be a surprise if I were the one to announce that one of them has renewed. Keep asking, that's your job, but you probably won't get an answer from me.

“It is clear that from January 1, many things may change for you, but they are in constant discussions with the club and let's wait and see what happens. As long as they continue to perform like this, the head coach is satisfied.”

And while a decision is made about his future, Alexander-Arnold will be happy to focus on his commitments to his current employers. The Reds took on West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday evening, ahead of next weekend's clash with fierce rivals Manchester United at Anfield.
