Diego Martinez masterminds first home defeat for Flick

Barcelona 1-2 Las Palmas

Barcelona had just returned from celebrating their 125th anniversary on Friday evening, and although they were not at their best in the first half, Las Palmas took the game to them. Both sides found space in the final third, but Fermin Lopez was unable to convert Pablo Torre's pass and Fabio Silva was just too short to head home from close range for Las Palmas.

There was a scary moment for Barcelona as Alejandro Balde struggled to breathe after a challenge from Sandro Ramirez, whose shoulder made contact with the left-back's neck. He was eventually carried off the field on a stretcher. That pause was followed by a pause in the proceedings. Barcelona came close to taking the lead before half-time, however, as Jasper Cillessen stopped Pedri's effort and Raphinha's excellent effort hit the crossbar on the way there.

Opportunities that Barcelona would miss after the break. Five minutes into the second period, Las Palmas executed the perfect counter-attack, with Scott McKenna finding Javi Munoz in midfield. His touch with Kirian Rodriguez sent Pio Pio running towards goal with a three-on-three, and when he found Sandro, the former Barcelona suspension fired low past Inaki Pena into the corner.

With Lamine Yamal on, Hansi Flick had made five substitutions every hour as it looked like they were on their way to a comeback. Raphinha cut inside and found the bottom corner with a rasping effort after mounting pressure. Yet Fabio Silva found himself behind Barcelona's defense just five minutes later. A ball from right back into Silva saw him hit the back line, and just when it looked like Hector Fort had gotten back in time, Silva finished neatly into the corner.

The Blaugrana tried to raise the bar several times, but apart from Raphinha's free-kick – expertly tipped by Cillessen, he struggled to create much. A late penalty call for Pau Victor was not heard by the referee or in the VAR room, but Hansi Flick's side have bigger problems as they are without a Liga win in three games.
