Manchester United ‘plotting bid for £84m-rated Sporting wonderkid Geovany Quenda
Manchester United are reportedly planning a move for Sporting Lisbon star Geovany Quenda.
After four and a half brilliant years at Sporting, Ruben Amorim was announced as United's new manager following the sacking of Erik ten Hag.
The 39-year-old is tasked with overturning a dismal start to the season for the club, after the Dutchman led them to their worst ever start to a Premier League season.
And he believes that 17-year-old Quenda can help him with that, according to A Bola.
The report claims that United had already approached the Portuguese side about the player before Amorin's arrival.
And they want to get a deal over the line as quickly as possible, with a summer move seen as the most likely timescale.
Quenda recently signed a contract extension until 2027, increasing his release clause from £38m to £84m.
That falls in line with teammate Victor Gyokeres, who has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs.
Quenda only broke into Sporting's first team this season and quickly became the youngest player to score for the club.
Following his move from Sporting to United earlier this month, Amorim denied he would sign his former players in the next transfer window, saying: 'I'm not going to sign. [Sporting players] in January, that's what I said.'
He added: “I don't know anything about summer. The main thing is to hold out until summer [laughs]. After that we will see that the Sporting players are very good players. Don't know. We'll see.'
