Micah Richards left ‘FLABBERGASTED’ as he slams ‘truly awful’ Man City performance in humbling 4-0 defeat by Tottenham

Tottenham's 4-0 win over Manchester City on Saturday evening left Micah Richards 'flabbergasted'.

James Maddison, on his 28th birthday, scored twice in the opening 20 minutes before Pedro Porro and substitute Brennan Johnson found the net in the second half.

City have now suffered five straight defeats in all competitions – a dismal run that started with another defeat to Spurs on October 30.

Former City defender Richards told Sky Sports after Saturday's match: 'I'm stunned.'

Richards added: “Spurs were excellent. Maddison was the best player on the pitch.

“From Man City's perspective it's really terrible and I don't often say that about City.

'They were wrong, the distances were wrong, they were dominated in midfield, they lacked energy, conviction, they didn't know how to break Spurs down.

'I was thinking about the contract [signed by manager Pep Guardiola earlier in the week] was going to give them a ride, but that wasn't the intention.

“It could have been a blip, but it was more than that, if you look at it today. To play at the Etihad and not score in games like this is a bad thing.”

City manager Guardiola later told Sky Sports: 'We are vulnerable at the moment.

'We couldn't defend well. We started well, struggled to score and then gave in. Then the situation is more difficult.

'I've been here as a player, maybe not as a manager… we lost the first three games at Barcelona. The only chance we have is to stay there. The results have been there over the past eight years; it would be a mistake to change the approach.

'There are no fairy tales in life and sport, sometimes you have to experience such situations. You have to accept it.

'You can't blame each other. [We must] stick together, keep doing what we've been doing.

'Run away? Absolutely not, we need to stand up more than ever. What will define us is that when we fail, we get up and face it.

'I don't know what will happen this season, but I won't believe in these players for a second.

'There is no team in the world that can sustain success for eight, nine, ten years in a row.

“Of course not everything is fine, but what we are trying to do is analyze it, let's go to the next match and see what happens.”

City remain second in the Premier League despite their latest defeat.

However, if Liverpool won against Southampton on Sunday, Guardiola's team would be eight points behind the leaders. City's next Premier League match is at Liverpool on December 1.
