Liverpool and Atletico Madrid legend Fernando Torres turns down management offer
Liverpool and Atletico Madrid icon Fernando Torres is working his way through the coaching ranks in the Spanish capital but has turned down the chance to take over a slumbering giant of Spanish football.
Until this season, 40-year-old Torres was in charge of the under-19s at Atletico and managed to steal a league title from Real Madrid. This year he took over from Luis Garcia Tevenet as manager of Atletico B, where things have been more difficult, but he is highly rated at Concha Espina.
According to Relevo, Deportivo La Coruna have made an offer for him in recent weeks. After being promoted to Segunda, Imanol Idiakez was sacked as Depor hovered in the relegation battle. Before Oscar Gilsanz took over two weeks ago, Torres was given the opportunity to do so but decided to stay at Atletico as he dreams of taking over the senior role one day.
