Man Utd chiefs to ‘give Amorim much smaller budget than wasteful Ten Hag and hope he gets best out of two big signings’

RUBEN AMORIM is expected to work with a much smaller budget than Erik ten Hag did at Manchester United, according to reports.

The 53-year-old Ten Hag spent more than 600 million euros on transfers in just two and a half years as Red Devils boss.

Over the past decade, United have averaged five signings per summer.

But according to the Telegraph, they are not planning to massively overhaul their current squad at the end of the season.

Instead, club chiefs believe new boss Amorim can get much more out of their current crop of players.

Last summer, Ten Hag spent almost £200 million on Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee and Noussair Mazraoui.

While during his reign he also spent £86 million on Antony, £70 million on Casemiro, £72 million on Rasmus Hojlund and £60 million on Mason Mount.

The latter two in particular are players that United chiefs hope Amorim can get something out of.

Since the Portuguese arrived at Old Trafford, Man Utd scouts have spotted his former Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres scoring for Sweden this weekend.

But United bosses will be hoping Hojlund can fulfill his potential and get the goals.

Amorim will take charge of his first game as Man Utd manager on Sunday.

He will pick his side against Ipswich Town, who triumphed 2-1 over Tottenham before the international break to win the Premier League for the first time in 22 years.

Last week, Amorim spoke for the first time as Man Utd manager and admitted he is unfazed by the burden of history at Old Trafford.

He said: “It's a big responsibility but you feel honored and excited to be part of it.

“When the team plays well and wins games, everything looks so much better. We are the engine of football; Manchester United is the engine of the Premier League in my opinion.”

“We haven't won the Premier League for a long time, but United are the biggest club in England.

“This is part of history, but it isn't now, so we have to address that and try to win again.

“All people are hungry for success and that's why I want to be here, because you can be part of something special.”
