Barcelona to announce new mascot for 125th anniversary

Barcelona will announce a new mascot next week as part of their 125th anniversary celebrations. The Blaugrana once had a mascot as part of their 100th anniversary in 1999, with 'Clam' appearing on the pitch.

The 'Clam' mascot was part of their festivities, but was a temporary part of the club's matchday experience, while the new mascot will be a permanent addition to life at Montjuic and then Camp Nou. There is no information about the design, but Relevo says it was put together by Catalan graphic designers. There will be both a 'real life' version and a graphic version.

There was also briefly the talking ball in Barcelona, which infamously dominated their marketing efforts for a while, but that was just a graphic design and never officially a mascot.

Barcelona will host the celebrations next Thursday (on November 29) in a grand evening at the Liceu Theater on La Rambla, with a host of celebrities from the club's past and present expected, not least Lionel Messi. A 125th anniversary song is also expected for members to vote on.
