Did Christian Pulisic do the Trump dance after scoring for USMNT?
The darling of American football could join the growing list of sports stars emulating the country's new president-elect.
The USMNT comfortably secured passage to the CONCACAF semi-finals with a 5-2 aggregate victory over Jamaica.
Star player Christian Pulisic, continuing his good form in Italy, scored a number of goals. But it's his celebration of the first goal that has got people talking.
There has been no confirmation from Pulisic or the USMNT as to the source of the celebration, but many on social media were quick to draw connections between his celebration and that of his other fellow athletes; Donald Trump's signature move.
The dance comes from Trump's campaign rallies, most notably a notable performance on Oct. 15 in which he danced for about 40 minutes after two people collapsed during a speech. The movements typically involve moving the arms back and forth and up and down, often to songs like “YMCA”.
“Captain MAGAmerica,” said one commenter.
Other athletes are involved in the dance. Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers was one of the first to popularize the trend. Other big names include UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who celebrated with Trump after his most recent win.
