Barcelona top forward target moving out of reach

Barcelona are aware that they will have to make moves in the transfer market in the coming years to replace Robert Lewandowski, but it looks like that won't happen next summer. The top choice is believed to be Viktor Gyokeres, while the dream is Erling Haaland, but neither seems within reach at the moment.

It was originally stated that Gyokeres has an agreement with Sporting CP that he can leave for 60-70 million euros next year, despite having a release clause of 100 million euros. That put Barcelona on edge, because they know that most top strikers don't come for that price.

However, Sport now says it believes his form is so good that one of the interested parties could still try to pay his release clause, with Manchester City and Manchester United mentioned as potential destinations. Both his sporting director Hugo Viana and manager Ruben Amorim are moving to Northern England. As such, Gyokeres would be inaccessible to them.

In any case, word came from Catalonia that Barcelona have no intention of adding a number nine to take over for Lewandowski over the next two seasons, not least because of their finances. Sporting director Deco is planning to add depth to the front line, with Jonathan David linked to the club in recent times.
