Tottenham midfielder handed seven-game ban for Heung-Min Son racial slur
Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been handed a seven-match ban for his summer comments about teammate Heung-Min Son.
Bentancur was informed of his possible punishment by his agent last week and the Football Association has now confirmed the sanction.
During his international tour of duty with Uruguay, Bentancur said: “My agent called me and told me he had been informed that this was the sanction.”
The FA announced in September that it had charged Bentancur with misconduct in relation to its rules on abuse and insult and rules containing references to race or ethnicity.
Bentancur insisted it was a “very bad joke” after saying in an interview with Uruguayan national television that Son and his cousins ”all look the same.”
Son said they remained “brothers” and that “nothing had changed” after Bentancur immediately apologized to him and admitted he “made a mistake”.
Tottenham travel to Manchester City on Saturday, November 23.
